What is the DSA?
The District Surveyors Association is the only organisation representing
the exclusive interests of Local Authority Building Control. The
Association acts as a catalyst to host initiatives to support the
local authority services across the County.
The Lancashire group are part of the national organisation to promote
and co-ordinate, National, Regional and Local Standards. All members
of staff employed within the Building Control Sections (see below)
of the local authorities in Lancashire automatically become members
of the DSA.
Main Aims
To strive to improve the standards of health,
safety and access for the disabled in and around buildings.
To promote a sound system of building control.
To encourage and assist good leadership and management
of Local Authority Building Control.
To encourage and assist in the training and development
of local authority building control staff and the building industry
in general.
LABC Services
This is the marketing and promotion arm of the DSA, promoting Local
Authority Building Control as a fully co-ordinated national organisation.
The full time staff bases in London are responsible for a number
of initiatives. These include:
LANTAC is a fast track route to approval for
standard building designs throughout England and Wales.
SiteLines is a quarterly magazine for the building
professional.
Partner Authority Scheme allows an individual local authority to
"partner" with a building developer or designer to provide
a single point of contact for building control in England and Wales.
Warranties, the LABC portfolio now covers all
aspects of the building industry.
Lancashire Agreement, to enable and support joint
working within the fourteen local authorities.
